ObamaCare ‘Turmoil’ Already Killing Jobs
by KEN BRAUN

Buried in the ObamaCare law is a tax on medical devices. This month, we learned that 205 employees of medical device maker Welch Allyn will lose their jobs because of it. It is but one of thousands of stories about job creators who must respond rationally yet unfortunately when politicians impose job destroying policies on the American economy. Helping employers educate their employees about this connection and rescuing our culture of free enterprise is why Job Creators Solutions has been formed.
Bernie Marcus, co-founder of The Home Depot, joined with Herman Cain to create Job Creators Solutions. Cain and JCA are now on a 30 city Truth Tour to show employers what they can do to educate their employees about the link between bad public policy and job cuts that kill the careers of valued and productive American workers. The events feature Cain and other prominent experts in public policy, such as ace political consultant Dick Morris and economist Art Laffer.
According to media accounts, the new medical devices tax will hit employers at 2.3 percent on their sales. So a company with $100 million in sales that turns a $10 million profit will fork over a brand new tax of $2.3 million just to cover the ObamaCare tab.
But that cost is only part of what caused Welch Allyn’s managers to decide upon job cuts that will eventually reduce the company’s workforce by 10 percent. Also at issue is how the customers have been responding to ObamaCare. Welch Allyn’s CEO said that “turmoil” is happening in the domestic health care market as doctors and hospitals are afraid to invest in new equipment due to uncertainty about what ObamaCare will do to their businesses.
The ensuing domino effect of customers and investors sitting on the sidelines with their money has knocked over real careers at Welch Allyn. The company’s plant in Beaverton, Oregon, will cease making wireless patient monitors, putting 160 people out of a job, and its headquarters in Skaneatles Falls, New York, informed 45 additional workers that their jobs will also be on the chopping block.
The story at Welch Allyn is the story of big business and small entrepreneurs and everyone in between, all across the American economy. And not just because of ObamaCare, but because of countless other tax, regulatory and energy policies that have now stacked up so high that the future of free enterprise itself is in doubt.
Job creators who are interested in learning how to fight back are encouraged to attend a Truth Tour luncheon in a city near them. Sign up is available here.
Additionally, Cain and the Truth Tour will be hosting community events at nearby colleges that are open to everyone, not just employers. Sign up for those events is available here.
